1. Tuesday, January 9: "Collaborating with Indigenous Peoples: Ethics of decolonial feminist anthropology"

Diana Fox (University of the West Indies/Bridgewater State University)

What are the ethical obligations that should guide non-Indigenous scholar-activists working with Indigenous Peoples? In this presentation, I discuss my ever-evolving response to this question, through the lens of feminist anthropology and decolonial and Indigenous rights frameworks. I highlight dimensions of collaborative partnerships shaped first by a rejection of the anthropological concept of “fictive kin”, and later informed by relational dynamics of activist friendships and inspired by the Indigenous concept of “all my relations” (Mitákuye Oyás’iŋ). I share examples from my work with Maroons and First Peoples of the Caribbean, including a recent project with the Caribbean Development Bank.
