Erzsébet Barát
Barát, Erzsébet is Recurring Visting Associate Professor at the Gender Studies Department, Central European University, (Budapest)Vienna since 2000. She was employed in the Institute of English and American Studies, University of Szeged, Hungary between 1990 – 2023. She earned her PhD in Linguistics in 2000, from Faculty of Social Sciences, Lancaster University, UK. She acted as Founding Editor-in-Chief of the open access e-journal, TNTeF: Interdisciplinary e-Journal of Gender Studies (https://ojs.bibl.u-szeged.hu/index.php/tntef/index), the only academic journal of feminist scholarship in Hungary (2011 – 2024). Her major fields of research and teaching are critical studies of discourse, specifically, the relationship between signification, ideology, and power with a focus on hate-speech; queer- and transfeminist theories of gender with a focus on right wing populist discourses of anti-gender politics; feminist studies of popular culture and the media with a focus on the gaze; and qualitative research methodology.
