Cult E: Abundance of Accent in Words and Music

In this seminar we will take accent, following the authors of Thinking with an Accent (2023), beyond its lingual manifestation of difference, and we will read and listen to the awkwardly (re)sounding and / or merging catalogue of words and music from the end of the 20th-beginning of the 21st centuries, with a pronounced intention of attunement. In this rewarding inconvenience, we will be together with Lauren Berlant, bell hooks, James Baldwin, Bad Bunny, Braty Hadiukiny, Latexfauna, Judy Grahn, Ani DiFranco, Bob Dylan, Elizabeth Bachinsky, and Billy-Ray Belcourt (with possible slight changes to the line-up). Our hope will be that of discerning our own (un)belonging and accentedness—in abundance.
